Sabah Borneo, May-2007
Borneo May 2007
Dear Member,
Discover Sabah Borneo,
6 Days, 5 nights: from $2250 per diver.
Sabah sits at the North Western tip of Malasian Borneo, the world’s third largest island. The tropical/equatorial climate has an average temperature of 32C with 85-95% humidity.
Sabah has been voted one of the world’s top dive destinations.
Most major credit cards are accepted in shops and resorts. Cash and travellers cheques can be exchanged at banks in the city centre where ATM machines are also available.
Diving Sipadan:
Sipadan Island is a protected conservation zone with moves on the way to list it as a world heritage site. Sipadan’s vertical topography and abundant marine life make it one of the worlds’ most desired diving destinations. The waters are warm and calm with great visability. Walls surround 90% of the island, and most are shear drops that extend out of site into the blue depths. Many of the walls have ledges where turtles rest. Some are so steep, that they actually undercut and slope inward, toward the island, creating overhangs encrusted with soft corals. 15 metres from the beach, a vertical wall starting at a depth of 3 metres plunges straight down to 600 metres.
Diving Mabul Island:
Although closely located to Sipadan Island, the diving at Mabul is totally different. In contrast, Mabul is a wonderland of strange, exotic marine creatures. Dozens of species of nudibranchs, shrimps, eels and many other tiny, rare creatures can be found in the sand, rubble and fringing coral reef near the island. The variety of fantastic, colourful creatures will keep the Macro Photographer busy for hours. Divers also have access to the prolific macro dive sites at Kapalai. (0418)370159

Puerto Galera, Philippines, Sep-2006
Philippines, Sep-2006Dear Members,
Puerto Galera, Philippines
Located a short 4 hours away from Malila, Puerto Galera offers some of the most renowned diving in Asia. With more than 30 sites located within 10 minutes of the beach, Puerto Galera is blessed with gentle sloping reefs, where you will find vast fields of coral and rare species of fish. Internationally regarded as a premier dive destination, we have retained the personal service, charm and cozy atmosphere that makes every diver return for more.
Macro Heaven. Sharks, turtles and rays are some of the species you can see at Puerto Galera’s outstanding dive sites. What makes the area truly fabulous is its spectacular macro life which has lured international photographers to make this enchanted island their home. You will find that dive photos in many guidebooks are from Puerto Galera.
Every dive becomes an adventure. You can find the Pigmy Seahorses hiding on fan corals, prehistoric frogfish waiting for their next meal or ghost pipefish drifting through the soft coral. They are all there for you to find. Exploring was never as exciting nor as easy.
Coron.
Sangat Island Reserve is situated in the northern part of the Calamian Islands in the province of Palawan, the Philippines most western islands. The Calamian Islands are known for their pristine beauty, natural attractions and mystic appeal. The short flight from Manila to Coron takes about 1 hour, over some beautiful sights and lagoons below. As you arrive into the small domestic airport in Coron, you are met by jeepney and transferred to the dock (approximately 45 minute journey through the farm country of Coron), where an outrigger will take you the final 15 minutes of your trip to the stunning Sangat Island Resort. Sangat Island, also known at Tangat Island, has the closest resort and dive facility to the wrecks of Coron Bay. Six of the famous WW II Japanese wrecks are within 15 minutes of the resort with the closest only 5 minutes away.
